21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

New years come with hope. As the calendar changes from one year to another, there is the quiet aspiration that perhaps this annum will be the one that ______________. Often resolutions are made to align our will to the desired course. For people of faith, some of those activities include starting new spiritual disciplines such as Scripture reading, Journaling, Times of solitude, Prayer, and yes, even Fasting.

If we aren't careful, these activities, though noble and right, can become power manipulators with Heaven. "I do this God, so I expect you to do this." On the other hand, some fall into fatalism accepting some situations that should never be accepted. Between these two extremes is the honest and humble posture of pursuit. This world has numerous challenges. Behind each one is an opportunity to see a breakthrough.

Breakthroughs are miracles either in one's situation or in one's own life. The posture of faith is contending for a change in either place or both.

How This Works:

Identify an area in which you need Breakthrough.

Identify the area in which you need Breakthough. It may be a health issue, a relationship challenge, a financial pressure or a habit that has become an addiction.

Write it down.

We encourage you to write it down – whether its in your  journal, on a post-it note, saved to your phone. Keep it in a place that reminds you to be focused in prayer.

Prayer - change of habit.

Change up your routine by waking up early to spend extended time in prayer; or it may be coming to church early each Sunday to sit and listen during 9am Prayer & Worship hour.

Fasting - beginning a new pattern.

Fasting is abstaining from something (food, social media, etc) and replacing that time with prayer. Here are a couple types to help you decide what is best*:

The Daniel Fast
Eat no meat, no sweets, no bread and no dairy. Drink water and juice. Eat fruits and vegetables.

Partial Fast
A partial fast is from 6:00am to 3:00pm or from sun up to sundown. You can select from three types of fasts: a full fast, Daniel fast or give up at least one meal.

Non-Food Fast 
Choose any desirable thing in your life to abstain from. Examples include social media, entertainment, shopping, etc.

Full Fast
Drink only liquids.
