Valley Christian Worship was invited to lead a worship night for a young adult ministry from Harvest Church in Concord a few weekends ago. Braving the traffic on a Friday afternoon, we loaded up gear, people and anticipation of a great night.
After stopping at Chick-fil-A for dinner (a must whenever passing through Walnut Creek during ANY meal time…), we found the beautiful home we were going to be worshiping at. Yup, simply, someone’s backyard. Young adult leaders, David and Jess regularly open their home up to create worship venues for their group.
After unloading all of our gear, finding a make-shift keyboard stand, and meeting new friends, we were ready to go!
We spent the next hour calling out to our beautiful God who so powerfully met us in that little backyard!
I’m continually amazed by the glorious presence of God and how He lavishly offers His love to you and me. No matter where you are; be it a Sunday morning service in the Worship Center or someone’s backyard. He loves to meet with His people. A few weeks ago Pastor Roger talked about His (God’s) Meeting. Something special happens when we, His people, gather together corporately to seek His presence. Something wonderful happens: He actually shows up!
Now that’s not to say He can’t show up in the stillness of the night in a solitude moment. Those are special, too. But Hebrews 10:25 says to… “not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching” (emphasis mine).
If it has become a habit of yours to sleep in, overlook, over plan or otherwise avoid meeting together with God’s people, I challenge you to make a change. Find the importance of “the gathering” again. If it starts in a backyard, great, but don’t stop there. Find the beauty and diversity of meeting corporately every week with others in a gathering God set in motion. Come and worship with us every Sunday at 9:00 am and 11:00am.
