While it is no secret that I generally shy away from conflict, something recently came across my inbox I thought was important enough to pass along. Though political in nature, it is spiritually mandated. I’m talking about PRAYER. More specifically, prayer for our nation’s leaders.
This week will mark the inauguration of the 45th president of the United States. I refuse to side with mainstream media and countless others who would like nothing better than to simply riot their boisterous opinions about the election, it’s candidates or our nation. Instead, I choose to pray. I’m reminded of Romans 13 and Titus 3 which specifically talk about our attitude toward leaders and government.
“Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. 2 So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.” Romans 13:1-2
“Remind the believers to submit to the government and its officers. They should be obedient, always ready to do what is good. 2 They must not slander anyone and must avoid quarreling. Instead, they should be gentle and show true humility to everyone.” Titus 3:1-2
Debate what you must, but I can’t set aside the spiritual mandate of God’s word and Jesus’ command to pray for those who “persecute and mistreat you.” (Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:28) His words, no doubt, speaking of the oppression by dictating governments. Paul also instructs us in 1 Timothy 2:1-2…
“I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” 1 Timothy 2:1-2
All this to say, there is an already established prayer campaign that implores fellow believers to join them in praying for our nation and it’s newly elected leaders. I cannot even say that I fully support everything this organization stands for as I do not know the entirety of their beliefs; but what I can stand beside is their effort to surround our government in prayer. The following is information taken direction from their communication. Feel free to explore the charge for yourself. Don’t forget to pray!
